4 things You Should Know About Lift Kits

5/23/2019

A truck lift kit is an after-market modification designed to raise the drive height of a truck or Jeep by raising the body or adding height to the wheel well. In the past, some inventive home mechanics would craft their own suspension lift kits, but the results weren’t always the safest. Thankfully these days leading manufacturers design kits specifically for different types of trucks and some report that a lifted truck handles even better than the standard model. But before you invest in a lift kit it is important to consider the following:

1. Style or Functionality
Some lift kits provide practical uses for off-road vehicles; increasing their ground clearance, while for other trucks they are used for aesthetics and to enable bigger wheels to be used.
2. Suspension vs. Body Lift Kits
Suspension lift kits work by replacing the front and rear shocks and leaf springs to raise the vehicle's ground clearance. Whilst body lift kits are primarily used to get elevation in the wheel well by lifting the body of the vehicle up off of its frame through the placement of blocks or spacers.
3. Driving After Installing a Lift Kit
Installing a lift kit changes the center of gravity of the truck, and as a result, it is more likely to tip or sway in corners. Drivers are recommended to treat driving a lifted truck, like driving a vehicle altogether.
4. Don't Forget the Maintenance
Like with all after-market additions to a vehicle, it's important for the driver to make sure proper maintenance and checks are being performed like ensuring the tightness of bolts and to ensure no slack has been created.

Keep these tips in mind when you’re shopping for your lift kit:
  • Stick to brands that you know and trust
  • This is a purchase where quality counts! Don’t sacrifice quality materials over a difference in price
  • The best kit will be one designed specifically for your vehicle's make and model
  • Don’t risk your safety, have a professional install it
